Market Timing in Australia

Monday, May 1, 2023

Australia's Market

On my short-to-medium-term trend analysis, the All-Ords index is bullish. Its price momentum as measured by the MACD
oscillator went positive on March 29 but is now slowing. On medium-to-long-term trend analysis, the All-Ords index is bullish. The rapid market rally in early April saved it from going bearish.

America's Market

America’s S&P500 share index is bullish on short-to-medium-term trend analysis. However, its MACD momentum indicator went negative in the last four trading days after being positive since March 21. The US share market’s medium-to-long-term trend went bullish on 14 April 2023. The S&P 500 Coppock momentum indicator turned up at the end of March suggesting that the worst is over.

Nasdaq

Finally, the NASDAQ share index for the first time in three years has entered a bull market having risen by 24% since its low on 28 December 2022.

Sector Analysis

Within Australia, Resources (QRE.ax) is matched by Gold (PMGOLD.ax) with Finance (OZF.ax) on zero momentum. Property (SLF.ax) continues to be negative, though less so in the last month. Globally, all sectors remain positive with Other Developed Markets (IVE.ax) still leading
though closely matched by Gold (PMGOLD.ax). Both the US Market (IVV.ax) and Emerging Markets (IEM.ax) show positive momentum. The latter was in the doldrums for a long time.
