Market Timing in Australia

Saturday, October 15, 2022

Last week the Australian All-Ords share index fell 0.4% after jumping an amazing 4.5% the week before.

Australia's Market

On short-to-medium-term trend analysis, the All-Ords index is bearish but its price momentum as measured by the MACD oscillator has been positive for the past eight trading days. On medium-to-long-term trend analysis, the All-Ords index is bearish.

America's Market

America’s S&P500 share index is bearish on short-to-medium-term trend analysis, though its MACD momentum indicator is now positive after the market enjoyed a brief bounce last week. The US share market’s medium-to-long-term trend indicators went bearish.

From its peak on January 3rd, 2022 to its trough on June 16th, the S&P 500 index fell by 23.6%, which being more than 20% made it a “crash”. But between the 16th of June and the 16th of August, it rebounded by 17.4%, though it then fell again below its low point in June, and is now thrashing around 3600, meaning it is now back to where it was almost two years ago. The post-pandemic boom is well and truly over.
