Market Timing in Australia

Simmering worries about borrowing costs and inflation exploded overnight as US bond yields spiked more than 16 basis points to a year high. Wall Street's fear gauge, the VIX, soared 35.4%. The Nasdaq Composite, which is heavily weighted towards tech companies that borrow to fund growth, tanked 3.52 %. The broader S&P 500 fell 2.45%.

Australian yields followed suit. The ten-year yield hit 1.9%. On February 16th, the All-Ords index got within a smidgen (0.9%) of its previous high on February 20th, 2020. But it retreated by 2.5% between the 16th and 26th of February 2021.

The Australian government's 10-year bond rate rose from around 1% near the end of January to almost 2% at the close of trading last Thursday before it settled back to 1.7% by the end of trading on Friday.

The broad GEURR monitors a basket of 14 primary EUR cross rates, such as the USD/EUR exchange rate.
Our global cryptocurrencies basket seeks to measure the risk of cryptocurrencies investments denominated in USD.
