Market Timing in Australia

Saturday, September 7, 2019

Australia: The All Ords again continued its rise this week as optimism over US-China trade talks, now scheduled to resume next month, continued to lift sentiment.  Consumer staples were up strongly as were most other market sectors, signs of a small recovery in the iron ore price helped the miners recover some of their recent losses, however, the recent optimism in the market saw falls in defensive stocks such as utilities and gold.

America: US markets surged this week with optimism over trade talks keeping sentiment strong. On the downside, nonfarm payrolls were weaker than expected, reinforcing expectations of a cut in official interest rates this month, and Tuesday's ISM manufacturing index showed worrying contraction inactivity. News that China is stimulating its economy by reducing the level of mandatory cash reserves it requires banks to hold was well received.
