Market Timing in Australia

Saturday, August 3, 2019

Australia: After a strong start to the week, the market weakened as a sudden drop in the price of iron ore depressed the miners and heavy falls in US markets soured sentiment. The announcement of additional US tariffs on Chinese imports was bad news for markets worldwide and ours was no exception, though healthcare and Industrial stocks defied the trend to post rises.

America:  US markets fell heavily this week as the federal reserve signaled that further interest rate cuts are unlikely and President Trump levied further tariffs on Chinese imports, triggering threats of retaliation from China. In a bad sign for short-term growth, the manufacturing industry cut workers' hours in July and some previous jobs growth figures were revised downwards as the trade war has reduced the volume of both imports and exports.

Leveraged Momentum

Monday, August 5, 2019

Fear of lower earnings and the ongoing trade war seems to be stronger than any greed spurred by the probability of the Fed continuing to lower rates or by stronger than expected earnings. Our LevBands model (annualized return of 25.02% since began tracking on TimerTrac on 4/27/16) is experiencing whiplash as it sold, bought, and then sold UPRO again in the last week. LevCrosses remains in UPRO (annualized return of 35.25% since began tracking on TimerTrac on 4/9/18). UPROTrends also remains in UPRO (performance data will be referenced after one year of tracking on TimerTrac which began 3/25/19). TQQQTrends remains in TQQQ (performance data will be referenced after one year of tracking on TimerTrac which began 11/24/18). Performance data and charts for the LevBands, LevCrosses, UPROTrends, and TQQQTrends strategies along with the index of your choice (for comparison) can be obtained on the Graphs page of the TimerTrac site.
