Market Timing in Australia

Saturday, August 17, 2019

Australia: The local market fell heavily again this week. Uncertainty about the ongoing trade wars and the re-emergence of an inverted bond yield, where long-term bond returns are lower than short-term returns, raises the possibility of a recession. Economic data from a number of key world economies is showing a marked slowdown, reinforcing those fears.

America: US markets also fell a little this week, recovering some ground on Friday to pare the losses for the week. President Trump announced a delay in implementing the next round of tariffs on Chinese imports, however this was widely viewed as an admission that the trade war is hurting the US almost as much as it is hurting China. In economic news, weekly jobless claims were up a little, retail sales rose and the CPI was steady.

Leveraged Momentum

Monday, August 19, 2019

Market continues to fluctuate between fear of lower projected earnings and the ongoing trade war and greed spurred by strong consumer spending, wage growth, the probability of the Fed continuing to lower rates, and stronger than expected actual earnings. Our LevBands model (annualized return of 22.85% since began tracking on TimerTrac on 4/27/16) is experiencing whiplash as it sold and bought UPRO again in the last week. LevCrosses remains in UPRO (annualized return of 29.20% since began tracking on TimerTrac on 4/9/18). UPROTrends also remains in UPRO (performance data will be referenced after one year of tracking on TimerTrac which began 3/25/19). TQQQTrends remains in TQQQ (performance data will be referenced after one year of tracking on TimerTrac which began 11/24/18). Performance data and charts for the LevBands, LevCrosses, UPROTrends, and TQQQTrends strategies along with the index of your choice (for comparison) can be obtained on the Graphs page of the TimerTrac site at.
