Market Timing in Australia
Saturday, June 22, 2019
Australia: The market was broadly up this week, led by a sustained rise in the US and the prospect of further interest rate cuts. The mining and energy sectors are reaping benefits with prices for oil and iron ore surging. Gold continues to
rise strongly, reflecting concerns that there might be clouds on the horizon.

America: The US market continued to rise, boosted in part by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East pushing oil stocks higher. Confirmation of a meeting between Presidents Xi and Trump raised optimism that there might be a breakthrough in the trade war, and hints of interest rate cuts were also welcomed.

Market Timing in Australia
Saturday, June 15, 2019
Australia: Mining stocks rose strongly as the iron ore price continued to surge, reaching a five year high this week. The broader market rose on positive leads from overseas and optimism over easier finance thanks to interest rate cuts, however consumer discretionary stocks were down.

America: The US market continued to rise, boosted by rising oil stocks after tankers were attacked in the Gulf of Oman. Strong retail sales figures also helped boost sentiment. Next week's Federal Reserve meeting will be pivotal as traders are anticipating further interest rate cuts after recent comments. The trade war with China is dragging on however an agreement has been reached on refugee migration with Mexico, reducing concerns over supply chain disruptions.

Market trends seem to indicate that greed spurred by the probability of the Fed lowering rates and by strong earnings has become stronger than fear of the escalating trade war. Our LevBands model (annualized return of 20.91% since began tracking on TimerTrac on 4/27/16) bought UPRO last week when it fell below its lower band and then rose back to that lower band (buy low). LevCrosses remains in UPRO (annualized return of 23.31% since began tracking on TimerTrac on 4/9/18). UPROTrends also remains in UPRO (performance data will be referenced after one year of tracking on TimerTrac which began 3/25/19). TQQQTrends remains in TQQQ (performance data will be referenced after one year of tracking on TimerTrac which began 11/24/18). Market Timing in Australia
Saturday, June 8, 2019
Australia: The reserve bank's interest rate cuts, supported by other global banks expressing similar sentiments, lifted the market this week. The miners fell back a little as iron ore prices fell in response to slowing Chinese factory output,
but the banks rose strongly. Positive leads from the US also helped lift local shares.

America: The US market recovered strongly from last week's falls as increasing optimism over trade negotiations took hold as a short extension was granted to Chinese exporters before tariff rises are applied, allowing for more meetings before they take effect. A sharp fall in nonfarm payrolls, implying a slowing of economic activity, increased the chances of interest rate cuts, further cheering the market.

Market Timing in Australia
Saturday, June 1, 2019
Australia: The local market fell back a little this week as concerns over a possible US recession worried traders, and the pain was spread across most sectors of the market. It is widely expected that the Reserve Bank will cut interest rates in the coming week, and this prospect
helped cushion the market from steeper falls.

America: The US market shuddered this week as President Trump threatened tariffs against Mexico in order to stem the flow of refugees from South and Central America. Business groups have called on him not to go through with this as it would disrupt supply chains and drive up prices in addition to providing a shock to Mexico's economy. The auto industry has seen substantial layoffs this year, with companies directly blaming tariffs for cost increases. This week's economic reports were mostly in line with expectations, doing little to provide cheer.

Fear of the escalating trade war continues to guide the market rather than any greed being generated by strong earnings and economic data. As David Moenning points out, the market seems to be reacting to news even more than normal so we probably should "panic early or not at all." Our LevBands model (annualized return of 23.64% since began tracking on TimerTrac on 4/27/16) sold UPRO last week due to continued price fluctuations. LevCrosses remains in UPRO (annualized return of 27.78% since began tracking on TimerTrac on 4/9/18). TQQQTrends remains in TQQQ (performance data will be referenced after one year of tracking on TimerTrac which began 11/24/18). UPROTrends also remains in UPRO (performance data will be referenced after one year of tracking on TimerTrac which began 3/25/19). Performance data and charts for the LevBands, LevCrosses, TQQQTrends, and UPROTrends strategies along with the index of your choice (for comparison) can be
